Are you getting ready to clear up some shrubbery and debris in your backyard before the cold months start? If so, just pause for a minute and consider this: Do you know what might be growing in your backyard?

Many landscaping projects have been put to a painful stop by one of three related plants – Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, or Poison Sumac.

If you have had the experience of being exposed to one of these, you know how bad it can get, and things don’t get any better by the fact that the oil that these plants contain can spread very easily from your hands or clothing to another body part, causing further discomfort. This is why you should be very careful if you are not certain whether or not you have these plants growing in your yard. Wearing gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, and pants is a good first step, but you also need to be careful to not touch these after you finish working. You are better off throwing the clothes directly into the washer to clean them off just to be on the safe side.
