Have you ever had burglars break into your home? It can be a very traumatic experience, and it often leaves the victim feeling unsafe in their own home. Unfortunately it happens to someone in the US about 270 times every hour according to some statistics. Since it is so prevalent, there are some common protective measures that will make it less likely that you become part of the statistics.

A good deterrent for burglars is an alarm system. Burglars are much less likely to try breaking into your home if there are signs that an alarm system is installed. Having a solid core front door is also good, since that is the most common point of entry. Windows should be away from the door so they can’t be used to reach the lock on the inside.

Avoid making it obvious that you are out of the house when you go on vacation. Have someone mow and clear away leaves, collect newspapers from your driveway and turn on and off the lights while you are gone.
